Solar Panel Cleaning
Over time airborne dust particles, bird droppings, tree sap and pollution will accumulate with the effect of creating shading on the cells which will prevent sunlight reaching them and thereby reducing their output performance.
Additionally lichen can and does form on panels which creates hard shading and can result in "hot spots" which will reduce the panel's life. If left unchecked lichen will continue to develop and grow until they have completely covered the panel. Lichen can be removed from solar panels but to do so is not as straightforward as you might think - whilst glass may feel very smooth to touch it is, in fact, pitted and very rough when put under a microscope. Lichen blooms make the most of this and attach themselves to the pits in the glass and, because of the way it forms a strong bond with the glass, it becomes very difficult to remove. It is far better to keep your panels reasonably clean and prevent any lichen growth than to try and remove it once it has taken hold and is thriving.
Maximise Your ROI
If solar panels are not regularly cleaned, dirt and other foreign bodies are likely to reduce productivity and diminish the owner’s ROI. Rain alone is not enough to ensure solar panels remain free from a build-up of dirt throughout the year, let alone the lifetime of the panel.
The cleaning and maintenance of panels is important in order to protect the asset owners’ investment. Solar panels are a relatively long-term investment, which means that they must be kept in good working order to reduce maintenance and panel replacement costs.
The increased return on investment will offset the cleaning cost plus on-going maintenance costs will be kept to a minimum if your panels are regularly cleaned, giving panels that will operate at their optimum output and looking clean in appearance.

Manufacturers DO NOT recommend the use of harmful chemicals or detergents to clean solar panels. However, they do advise regular cleaning using pure, deionized water, which will preserve their limited warranty and help to maintain the optimum output performance of the solar panels. Using hard, untreated, water will leave marks behind on the solar panels containing mineral deposits which will feed and help lichen to thrive, especially in hard water areas.
Clear Green provides a solar panel cleaning service whereby we clean both roof and ground mounted solar panel arrays, We do this using carbon fibre water-fed poles systems together with specialist brush heads and through the use of pure deionized water as recommended by all solar panel manufacturers. If we are cleaning a roof mounted panel array access is gained by either tower scaffold systems or, if required, by MEWPs (cherry pickers). All Clear Green operators are trained and experienced at working at height and hold Powered Access Licenses (PAL) cards under IPAF (International Powered Access Federation). Clear Green offer a fully insured service.
REMEMBER - YOUR OBJECTIVE IS TO MAXIMISE THE FINANCIAL RETURN FROM YOUR SOLAR PANELS, OURS IS TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE IN A CONDITION WHERE THEY PERFORM TO THEIR MAXIMUM SO THAT YOU CAN!
